El Centro to hold community meetings weekly starting today

Wednesday, September 19, 2007 10:52 PM PDT

El Centro Police Chief Leonard Knight held a press conference Wednesday afternoon about a series of community meetings that will begin today.

The El Centro Police Department will host citywide community meetings that will take place each Thursday. Each month a different topic will be discussed.

By splitting the city into quadrants, residents, business owners and other concerned members of the community are afforded the opportunity to attend a meeting close to their home or place of business. Everyone is encouraged to actively participate.

The meetings will run from 6 to 7 p.m. All meetings will be in English and Spanish.

Meetings locations include:

- First Thursday of the month: Kennedy Middle School cafeteria, 900 N. Sixth St.

- Second Thursday of the month: Hedrick Elementary School cafeteria, 550 S. Waterman Ave.

- Third Thursday of the month: El Centro Community Center, 375 S. First St.

- Fourth Thursday of the month: Sunflower Elementary School cafeteria, 2450 Main St.

Today, graffiti abatement will be discussed at the El Centro Community Center. The same topic will be discussed again Sept. 27 at Sunflower Elementary. The topic for October will be fire safety programs.

A complete list of topics is available from Community Service Officer Nicole Kenagy at 337-4517. Soon, that list will be available at www.ecpd.org
