Voice: How will we get out of this mess?

Tuesday, December 11, 2007 10:34 PM PST

Wouldn’t it be wonderful if people woke up and realized that politics is about money? Nothing illustrated this more than the 2004 election. Before the election, all the talk was about gay marriage and abortion. After the election, the talk was about privatizing Social Security and restructuring the tax code.

The Republicans used God to get control of the government and once they had that control, anti-people legislation poured out of the Republican Congress and was signed into law by a Republican president. Rules and regulations that had been put in place to protect the people from swindlers and con artists by the liberals during Democratic administrations were abolished and the stage was set for the rich to become richer. And now, the victims of Republicanism are starting to pay for mixing politics and religion. Millions will lose their homes and a large number of these will join the homeless population. Working people cannot afford to buy food, because their income has not kept pace with inflation, inflation that the administration says does not exist (after all, if you exclude housing, fuel, and food, why there is hardly any inflation at all). The American dollar is almost worthless due to heavy borrowing to fight an unnecessary war (the United States of America owes China $350 billion; how do you tell a country that you owe $350 billion to that you don’t want its stuff in your country?).

The people better start demanding that their government explain, in detail, why the price of oil is so high, why the cost of food is going up and what changed that made it possible for the subprime housing mess to happen and what are they going to do to get us out of this mess.

EUGENE A. RYAN, Niland

" What? You've just gotten aware that for eons there are the 'worker bees' and the 'queen bees', and that most of us are the workers! Might be tough to swallow, but that's life. Change through vote? Lotsa luck. "

" Yes, it's all about money, but it's about money that goes way beyond the reach of the ordinary Joe Citizen. It has and always will be about the few of the most wealthiest people in the entire WORLD. Politicians throughout the free world are mere puppets to the elite rich. Politicians continue to fuel the fires of discord between the populous with issues such as abortion, gay marriages, racial and sexual equality. For if We the populous (the peasants) were ever to come together as one against the wealthiest (the land barons) by destroying their stranglehold of the world's economy, there would be no debt, no hunger, no poverty. Since 99.9999999% of the world is unaware of what is REALLY going on around them, we are relegated to just living out our lives as best as we can. "

" BJ said-"For the record, no one "cried" to me about anything, and we do not edit people's comments." So says you and we all know newspapers never lie. Anyway this goes back to my request that you have a blog or forum with editing capabilities as I would have been more than happy to edit my language for the masses who can't stomach probably one of the most used words in the English language. I use BJ cause sometimes you act like you are in Kindergarten and since it is the season I promise to play nice. "What is Free Republic?" "

wesley wrote on Dec 12, 2007 10:36 PM:

" Hey gymjay, we gotta play by whatever rules they have here. As a private site what they say goes. I give credit to JBRad for letting me air my views from the VRWC, LOL!. In the meantime blow off steam at Free Republic. "

" Gymjunkie reveals a very strong truth to us, which might not be apparent to the "ignorants" of society. Regardless of the language, the point came across perfectly. I applaud your comment. "

JBrad wrote on Dec 12, 2007 12:53 PM:

" For the record, no one "cried" to me about anything, and we do not edit people's comments. Others have been told to keep it clean, not just you. Also, I haven't been called BJ since the playground in fourth grade. I prefer Brad. Thank you. - Brad Jennings, editor. "

gymjunkie wrote on Dec 12, 2007 11:56 AM:

" BJ There was nothing obscene, explicit, or racist about the a mispelled word. Your getting a little picky with your editing. I think somebody got their feelings hurt and went crying to you about it and that's the only reason you posted about my so-called bad language. If that's the case then that's what you should say instead of invoking politically correct language crap. In that vein I will not mispell bad language but expect to see you dole out the same criticism to others when it happens instead of relying on crybabies to bring it up. "

JBrad wrote on Dec 12, 2007 11:40 AM:

" This has nothing to do with "church" (?), but with a public Web site run by this newspaper and meant for public consumption and participation, including younger people. We have certain standards we all need to follow, including you. You are welcome to post here if you follow the guidelines. If not, you are free to not post. I'm not sure where your anger comes from, but please be respectful. Thank you. - Brad Jennings, editor. "

gymjunkie wrote on Dec 12, 2007 11:30 AM:

" BTW BJ. Aw, never mind not worth it. "

gymjunkie wrote on Dec 12, 2007 11:25 AM:

" OK BJ. Please feel free to change it to "caca" after you return from church. Lord knows I don't want to harm the moral standards of the IV Press. "

JBrad wrote on Dec 12, 2007 10:55 AM:

" Gymjunkie, please watch your language when you post. This will not be tolerated. I encourage you to look again at the posting guidelines. - Brad Jennings, editor. "

wesley wrote on Dec 12, 2007 10:30 AM:

" Blah, blah, blah, gimme, gimme, gimme, government gimme. Apparently there's so many "anti-people" legislation that Mr. Ryan couldn't even name one piece of legislation. 94 percent of home owners are paying their mortgages. I'm doing great in this economy. Everyone I know is doing great. Then again I'm not a loser, and I don't hang around losers, so mayber there's mores losers out there than I'm aware of. "

Prov3 wrote on Dec 12, 2007 9:41 AM:

" So, Mr. Ryan, you're saying that God and religion are to blame for inflation, fuel prices and the housing market? Take your own advice and "wake up". "

gymjunkie wrote on Dec 12, 2007 9:10 AM:

" What's this we sh!t Kimosabe? Yeah, let's elect a do nothing gimmee, gimmee, gimmee liberal Democrat so people can be taxed to oblivion. Free health care for all! Free for who the ones who don't or won't work? Yes let's do ask our liberal Democrat controled Gov't why the cost of everything is so high. "
