Sex offender nabbed at library

Friday, May 9, 2008 10:34 PM PDT

CALEXICO — A registered sex offender suspected of frequenting the children’s area of a local library faces accusations of annoying and molesting children, Police Chief Jim Neujahr said Friday.

James Woodrow Morse, a 62-year-old El Centro resident, was expected to appear in jail court for an arraignment hearing Friday following his arrest Wednesday, Neujahr said.

Morse, who has a prior child molestation conviction, was allegedly seen sitting on the floor of the children’s area of the library.

While Morse is not accused of having any physical contact with underage children, he is suspected of staring at little girls while pretending to read a book at Camarena Memorial Library, Neujahr said.

In the past, library staff had asked the suspect to leave but he often returned and headed for the children’s area, Neujahr said.

Aroused by their suspicions of the suspect’s alleged conduct, the staffers learned about Morse’s past through a Web site on sex offender registrants, Neujahr said. They got Morse’s name from his library card.

Officers observed the suspect at the library and then made their arrest. Morse was in custody as of Friday night. It was not immediately certain where and when Morse was convicted on molestation charges at press time.

" I wouldn't be surprised if those girls who were being stared at are related to some hot shot from calexico. Who knows maybe that's why Calexico Police did something about him. "

" I wonder if this is the same guy that was at Mains Elementary in Calecia?

Probably, the principal sure didn't do anything about it.

Note to admin.: Megan's website, it's free & it's public info. Check it out before something happens. "

" Praise goes out to the library staff, but I agree with Tupac, How long was this going on before someone had to step up and do something about it? I mean it would only take a matter of seconds for a 180 pound man to pick up and snatch a 55 pound kid and run. And come on, SOME parents lack the parental supervisory skills to be watching their children. Public agencies, stores, and especially schools should be aware of this of these kinds of MONSTERS. Not only aware but know how to take preventive and direct action if a situation were to occur.
Familywatchdog.com is another website that only presents actual pictures but address and schools that are nearby.
AND THE MORE YOU KNOW......

" How long does a sex offender have to be staring at kids or be around them to be arrested? Could this be the same one that has been rumored to be driving around jefferson school? There is a website and anywhere children are, those adults with the reposability to care for those children should take a look at it. It's easy, Megan's Law and type in the name of the person. "
