Unclaimed money totaling almost $274,000 was found hidden inside a vehicle that was seized Wednesday night.
CALEXICO — Almost $274,000 hidden inside a vehicle was seized at the Calexico Downtown Port of Entry Wednesday night, the U.S. Customs and Border Protection said.

The money, found wrapped in cellophane packages behind a concealed non-factory metal compartment, was the largest seizure of undeclared currency made in recent memory, the agency said.

The 1999 Cadillac El Dorado carrying the money was marked by a canine during a random canvass of cars entering the port at 6 p.m., CBP officials said.

The male driver, a U.S. citizen, was arrested on suspicion of currency smuggling by special agents of the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. The vehicle and currency were seized by CBP officers.

Wednesday’s seizure increases the amount of undeclared money seized at both Calexico ports of entry this fiscal year to $378,832.

Travelers must formally report to the U.S. government the entry or departure of any quantity over $10,000.

But my surprise is HOW Snoopy and his abnormal sensory skill caught this man with more than 9k. Hmmm are these dogs trained to smell and discriminate bundles of money adding more than 9k, adhesive used in the concealment, money drenched in drug. Or the BP incahoots with drug cartels, you give us so and so and we let so and so bypass. HMMMM? Actually i just wanted to us incahoots from my arsenal of funny unused words. GOOD JOB BP. "
