For Brawley-Valhalla and Valley Center made the semis, SFC and El Capitan lost in the quarters, and Indio didn't make the playoffs. "

Saints vs Cathedral in the semifinals would be one of the most watched games in semifinal history in the section. If Gaffney some how stubbed his toe in the quarterfinals, the Saints could perhaps pull an upset.
Don't look for the division to get any softer next season. Saints and Valhalla will be the top two teams returning their super qbs. "

" I was at the game...when El Cap had normal field position they didn't move the ball all that well. They punted it away more than a few times. The height really hurt the DBs on those two back of the endzone rust tosses.
The DBs learned a lot this season. Clark, Mohamed, and Mendoza were the number 1, 2, and 3 defensive backs that started this season...they would have helped. Once again good job to the young DBs for what they had to go against. "

" Because of injuries to their three best players, the Wildcats started a sophomore at quarterback and two sophomores at wing Brawley's key backs in its split-back veer formation.

Nonetheless, Wharton was 8-of-16 passing for 178 yards and two touchdown passes to Marquez. Wharton also rushed for 48 yards.

Fellow 10th-graders Oceguera had 13 carries for 61 yards and Oscar Lizarraga added 43 yards on 14 attempts as Brawley netted 299 total yards, including the 52-yard losses on the two bad snaps.

-No Mohamed,Clark, or a healthy Mendoza. Brawley will have Mohamed and Mendoza in the backfield as seniors, and both Oceguera and Lizarraga as juniors.
-Too many costly errors in back to back games killed their chance at victory, games in which they had more yards and more first downs.
-Self's young defense did pretty good in those two games for the most part.
-Going against Valhalla's and Valley Center's Qbs helped them for the most part, but the height advantage of the El Cap receivers led to easy touchdown passes.
-Brawley's pass rush did a much better job at chasing the QB, but Rust has wheels, so they couldn't sack him as many times that it looked like they would. "

If you would swap the coaching staff at Central and Brawley, Central would have been winning 50-0. They got outcoached and outplayed the last 3 years and had to win twice by small margins. I believe with the talent CENTRAL had this year versus the young team BRAWLEY fielded they should have blown them out by 30+. It was there weak schedule that has prevented CENTRAL from improving this season. Teams are going to see the offense stats they allowed vs. BRAWLEY and foam at the mouth. Add to the fact that Ricky Smith got more yards as a sophomore on his first carry two years ago than he did the entire game this year. CENTRAL has been exposed. Too bad, would like to see game at the Q represented by the Valley again. Hopefully in the near future. "

I don't know why they didn't play stronger teams...last year they played Horizon and Francis Parker-which are smaller schools...but Brawley played smaller schools in VC and SFC. Maybe they just couldn't find teams...maybe next season they will. I don't really know who JT plans on throwing the ball to next season. Smith and Smith will be gone. I don't know who Wharton is going to throw to either. I would expect Dylan Mohamed to become like Reggie Bush next season. I guess Cota will replace Velasco at fullback. Frankie Mendoza, AB Oscugurea, Oscar Lizarrga, and Mohamed will join Wharton in the backfield. I would guess Babb will replace one of the linebackers.
I hope both teams do find tough teams to go against. I figure Brawley would keep playing the old rival in Indio, but with Imperial joining next year that will mean one less non-league game. On that subject I hope Calipatria joins the Desert League so that the other teams don't have to play in a league over the mountains. "

Ricky has a lot of friends that live in Brawley, and that are on Brawley's football team, despite how they felt after the Bell Game two seasons ago. Ricky actually made people upset for is mini-taunt that you can see if you view the game on KBC's website. You can actually watch the past three Bell Games on there. Bird was smart to try and get him the ball outside of the backfield to utilize his skills. I don't think Darren Clark is going to pursue football when he leaves Brawley high, but I would hope Ricky beefs up a little and trys to play at the next level. Are you impressed with Brawley's rush defense? Self is a good teacher. I think the SFC game was their worse vs the rush. Here is my whine...the hole that Ricky ran through to set up the field goal was the spot my nephew was plugging up before he broke his elbow. A win is a win because everyone has injuries...It looked like in pregame warmups that Ricky wasn't full speed...his two huge receptions a big put return proved me wrong. They lose the league title since their only loss was to the Champs of Grossmont South-Helix
And Cathedral won 70-something over Scripps Ranch go to 10-0 and wins the Eastern League
Saints beat Patrick Henry and go to 6-4. This may be the team that falls out of the top 4 allowing Central a bye.
El Capitan beat Santana 21-7 and goes to 7-3 but wins the Grossmont North title.

And for Brawleys o-line, had it not been for them, they wouldnt have beat Palo Verde in the last minute of the game. All they hype has been with the players in the QB or RB position, but none of it would have been possible, for both teams, if it werent for the guys in the trenches. So watch the game on the line of scrimmage, it will dictate the outcome of the game. With that said Ive seen many Central games this year, and I know Brawley did lose some great players to injury, but this Central team is for real. Its going to be a fight, ONLY if Brawley can score some points throwing the ball, but if not..its going to be a blowout. I know Wildcat fans don't want to believe it, but I think a blowout loss is going to happen. That young Brawley team should be a great team, in the next couple of years though. But then again you never know. Prediction: Central 49 Brawley 7. "

Valley Football fan...read your post...your tune has changed alot during the season...You've seen Central improve.

Both Palo Verde and Calexico want to beat Brawley more than Central every year. They both came as close as ever, and actually had leads in their games versus the Wildcats...They came into the games vs Central down. Coach Bird is a good coach and a smart man, he isn't letting his team feel like world beaters just yet. Bird won the Bell just two years ago. This team is better on offense but not as good on defense-Bentley and Signortti were good at stopping the run. A 35-21 Central victory seems more realistic than the 50-14 score. Brawley's offense puts up more yards than Palo Verde or Calexico. Plan on a hard hitting game. I don't know if this game could match last years hits...one of the hardest hitting games I'veseen. "

Valhalla put up 35 and Valley Center put up 28. Both offenses were pretty darn good.

So I guess it would be a huge upset if Brawley retains the Bell?

The computer rankings after last night have Central 9th in DIII and Brawley 11th.

Brawley has been tested-vs Pete Thomas from Valhalla and Tyler Bernard of Valley Center-throw in Hatfield from Indio and they have seen great QBs already...so they will be ready.
Nothing against JT(Ive seen him play as a freshman and as a sophmore) he is not in Pete or Tyler's class just yet. I know that Brawley will not be scared due to who theyve gone against. I do understand that he wasn't getting too much support from the board or community, and that was the reason he went to Brawley High before the Bell Game last season. Any guesses to why he was over there? NO SUPPORT-Same as it was for Dagnino in Palo Verde-but now they have some more support. "

They should do better against Southwest. "

Central will not take their cross town rival Southwest lightly next week, and they shouldn't. Its a rivalry game, and embarrassing a rival at home is pretty important. "

The coaches would not allow them to eat, drink or talk to anyone. It wasnt until a spectator and angry parents mentioned that these boys had gone several hours without eating and still had a long evening before they got home that they were allowed any food. The players are not responding to their stupid antics..they need to know that the coaches are behind them whether they win or lose. They actually had very good defense against Christian J.V. and only lost 7-0. But the coaches are only aknowledging that they lost. "

After the incident at Santana H.S. he told the players he and his staff were angry at them for not winning against Christian J.V. and were not going to show up for practice the whole next week. They gave up on the boys..what kind of coaching is this? They should be supporting there boys not giving up on them! Dont they get paid to coach?? "

Brawley's J.V. plays Southwest this week. I'm predicting a win for the Wildcats. Donald Wharton did a great job on varsity last week so I don't think a J.V. team will be able to shut him down. They also have Raven Smith, Alec Babb, Oscar Lizarraga, and Eric Vialobos that also play on varsity as sophmores. Good luck to Southwest's JV anyways. Good to see the future of the Eagles is looking bright. Just will be a bummer week for the purple at all three levels. Brawley has had a bad year against great teams. Southwest is a little bit raw this season. "

Coach Bird is too predictable he lacks creativity-sure he has prepared his kids well and they play their hearts-considering the size of most of his players they have done well. But his poor play calling was the main reason Central lost the Bell last year..Doesnt seem like he learned anything from that game-still stinks at play calling!! I feel sorry for the players this will be their barrier to getting past the first round of the playoffs. "

Brawley at Valhalla will be another great game. Valhalla likes to throw the ball around so lets see if the Brawley pass D is up to the Challenge. Got to get pressure on the qb. Should be a great week for football in the Valley. Some close games but I think the Valley teams can pull it out. To recap predictions Calexico,Central,Brawley and Pv I think will pull out wins. Wheres your facts to back up your statements. I already told you that Brawley took the #6 ranked team in all of SdCounty and gave them all they could handle.
