BRAWLEY — Local community members here will be recognized for their many years of dedicated services to the city, during the Hidalgo Society’s 91st Installation of Officers Banquet on Saturday evening.

The event will include the recognition of the society’s Honorary Members and the presentation of the Community Service Award, explained the 2012 Hidalgo president and banquet chairman, Eric Reyes.

“These awards are awards well-deserved,” Reyes said.

The society will recognize four individuals with the Honorary Members statues, for their consistent hard work in the club, Reyes explained. The members include Ramona Montoya Reyes, Martha Iniguez, Arthur Gutierrez and posthumously, Rudy Cortez.

Recently retired Brawley parks and recreation director, Karin Morgan, will also be recognized for her years of dedicated service to the residents of Brawley, with the Community Service Award.

The members of the society voted to recognize Morgan, following her dedication to providing services to all of the different needs of the community for more than 30 years, Reyes said.

The event will also feature a formal installation of new officers, with Rusty Garcia Sr. as president, Rusty Garcia Jr. as vice president, Angelica Anaya as treasurer, Stella Sanchez as secretary and Maria Dominguez as the society’s sergeant-at-arms.

“It is an honor to be installed as president and a bigger honor to be included in the program with the honorary members and Karin Morgan, who has set an example of public service second to none,” said incoming president, Rusty Garcia Sr.

Following the presentation the banquet will feature a keynote address from David Valladolid, national chief executive officer of the Parent Institute for Quality Education.

The PIQE is known for creating partnerships among parents, students and educators to further students’ academic success, Reyes said.

“David Valladolid is the embodiment of the si se puede/yes it can be done attitude of community service and empowering people to be their best advocates,” Reyes said.

The evening’s events begin Saturday at the Hidalgo Hall in Brawley.

Doors open at 5 p.m., with dinner from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., and the program commencing at 7:45 p.m. The event will also hold a free dance to the public after 9 p.m. with Black Jack performing. Tickets for the banquet dinner and presentation are $25 per person.
