BRAWLEY — Having waited more than a year to find a permanent fire chief replacement for the Brawley Fire Department, city officials have opened the position to local, nationwide and international applicants.
The city has functioned with interim Fire Chief and former Fire Marshal Charles Peraza since Fire Chief Frank Contreras retired from the position in late 2011.
To help alleviate costs incurred while recruiting, the city delayed hiring a permanent replacement and conducted an internal hiring of Peraza while budgeting for a permanent recruitment process for fiscal year 2012-2013, according to the city’s fiscal year budget.
As of Jan. 17, the city has been working as scheduled and has begun promoting the open position with the budgeted $1,805.
“All qualified individuals are encouraged to apply,” said Shirley Bonillas, city personnel and risk management administrator.
