When 7-year-old El Centro resident Madison Rice decided to enter the GOT MILK? – Girl Scouts Photo Contest she had a pretty good idea of what the outcome would be.
“I thought I would win because I’m so cute,” Madison said. “I’m very excited that I won.”
Madison was one of more than 300 entries submitted by Girl Scouts from all eight councils in the state.
Of the 24 Girls Scouts selected only three will be named grand prize winners and have billboards unveiled in their hometowns come February.
Madison said she hopes to bring home the grand prize and the $500 reward.
“I want to buy an iPad,” she said. “I’ll probably use it to play games.”
Madison’s mother Danielle said she took a few pictures on her cellphone camera before telling her daughter to laugh for the next few pictures.
“I thought it would be better if you could see her missing teeth,” Danielle said with a smile. “I knew after I took the picture it was the one we’d submit.”
Danielle said her daughter has no problem smiling on cue and shouldn’t have too much of a problem recreating her big smile if asked.
Part of the reason Madison wanted to enter the contest is because she actually does drink a lot of milk, Danielle said.
“That’s what’s so funny about the whole thing,” Danielle said. “She actually does love milk. She doesn’t really drink juice or soda at all.”
As inspiration for her eight-word photo caption, Madison decided to borrow a few words from the Girls Scouts’ mission.
“Courage, confidence, character is sort of like the Girl Scouts’ slogan, and we decided to add ‘and strong teeth’ at the end because she’s missing so many,” Danielle said.
