With the baseball season right around the corner, the Imperial Valley Baseball Network’s annual Baseball Camp is set to get the ball rolling.

The camp is set for 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Southwest High in El Centro.

“We definitely look forward to this day every year and all the high school coaches are ready to go,” IVBN president Ruben Niebla said. “We’re excited.”

The camp will have all high school baseball coaches, former and current professional and collegiate-level players instructing the fundamentals of hitting, fielding, pitching and base-running.

“I think the most important thing is that the kids that are getting ready to start their Little League season and Babe Ruth season, I think it’s important to refresh their skills on the fundamentals and physical and mental part of the game,” Niebla said.

The fact that all high school coaches will be in attendance is also a major point the club likes to highlight.

“I think it’s a true Valley event,” Niebla said. “It’s not necessarily a local high school camp, it’s a whole-Valley thing.”

Registration starts at 8:30 a.m. the day of the event and is $25. It’s open to youths ages 8 to 18.

All proceeds from the camp go to the IVBN’s scholarship program. Scholarships are awarded to qualifying high school players.
