Every year the AARP Tax Aid program has volunteers to help do our taxes. They usually set up at the El Centro Library or at the Community Center and usually start advertising with Time Warner on the public announcement channel but nothing has shown up yet. I've called both the library and the community center and neither have any information. Can you please help me find out if they are volunteering this year, and if so where? – Tax filer, El Centro
As of late Thursday, it was still too early to determine whether or not free tax services would be available for senior citizens that had relied on the AARP volunteers who had set up shop at the library and community center during tax season.
El Centro library operations supervisor Lois Faison said that she had been approached last week by a volunteer who had asked whether the library had any space available for tax preparers to set up.
When told that there was indeed a room available for volunteer tax preparers, the unidentified person stated that he wasn’t sure he or anyone else would be able to offer their free services, Faison said.
The individual, who Faison said she wasn’t sure was or wasn’t associated with AARP, said that he would notify the library within a week to clarify whether or not services would be available.
In the past, the free services had typically been available starting in February and ran until mid-April.
