BRAWLEY — The city council here anticipates the approval of the expansion of the South San Diego Recycling Market Zone program for the city will create jobs and develop local markets for materials diverted from landfill.

The program is said to do this by providing businesses with low-interest loans, free technical assistance and marketing of products made with recycled content.

The city approved the expansion at its regular meeting and also announced that Sarah Albanese would join the Brawley Police Department as a dispatcher.

“It’s always a celebration when we have a new hire because there are so few these days,” said City Manager Rosanna Moore.

Also, Daniel Smith, chief financial officer at Pioneers Memorial Hospital, was named to the city’s oversight board after the resignation by Katie Santillan.
