IMPERIAL — The autopsy of the 31-year-old local martial artist who died after a disturbance at a club during the weekend was conducted Tuesday but no information on the findings was shared by police.
Staff at the Coroner’s Office couldn’t be reached by press time, but Imperial police Sgt. Jorge Hernandez confirmed the autopsy was conducted. However, Hernandez didn’t provide any of the findings as he explained the investigation is ongoing.
Hernandez did say that there were important findings made during the autopsy. He added that he’s meeting with the district attorney today “and I’m going to present all of the facts and we are going to take it from there.”
Daniel Romero was pronounced dead at El Centro Regional Medical Center on Sunday following a disturbance at Kashmir Night Club.
Kashmir managers allege that Romero was being aggressive toward various clients and struck a security guard when confronted.
Four security guards restrained him with handcuffs and took him out of the club where he became unresponsive, said Robert Herrera Prada, the club’s general manager.
Moreover, Prada said that Daniel Romero was never Tasered or pepper sprayed.
He also maintains that Romero and the four security guards that restrained him were never outside the view of surveillance cameras.
This video surveillance, Prada said, was provided to police and didn’t show at any time security guards striking Romero. And although Prada does note that blood was found outside the club he alleges that any injury that Romero had was “self-sustained.”
“It’s an unfortunate situation and my condolences do go out to the family, but the fact of the matter is that he (Romero) was the aggressor,” Prada said.
