Johnson

Johnson (February 4, 2013)

Dale Johnson was appointed as the new president and chief executive officer of Sun Community Federal Credit Union by the Board of Directors, according to a press release issued Monday morning.

“I am honored and excited to be selected to lead Sun Community,” Johnson said. “The credit union is financially strong, has great employees and a large base of loyal members.”

Johnson replaced former CEO Harold Walk, who is no longer with the credit union for reasons that have not been made public.

Walk was with the credit union from September 2006 to Jan. 31 of this year, according to Johnson.

It was reported that Walk was on administrative leave last month, although Johnson could not say why.

“We are not going to comment on personnel issues at this time,” Johnson said.

Despite the change in leadership, Johnson insisted it was “business as usual” at the credit union, which has more than 46,000 members and $285 million in assets, according to the press release.

“Sun Community plays an important role in providing financial services to the Imperial Valley,” Johnson said. “Our goal is to offer the highest quality of service and be the most convenient financial institution in our market.”

For the last two years, Johnson has served as the credit union’s executive vice president and chief financial officer.

“Mr. Johnson is highly qualified and he’s been here a few years,” said Bob Barros, Board of Directors president. “He knows the employees, the members and is actively involved in the community.”
