With a new format and plenty of stiff competition, the 50th anniversary of the Holtville Rotary Invitational is set to run Friday and Saturday.
The tournament used to feature a 16-man format in each division, being bumped up to 32 to give more wrestlers a spot in the double-elimination tournament.
It will feature 28 teams including powerhouses like Brawley Union, Valley Center, Ramona, Rancho Bernardo and Escondido.
“The teams that are coming are usually bringing good competition,” Holtville head wresting coach and tournament director CJ Johnston said. “Some of the matchups include some guys that are state ranked … so the competition should be solid.”
