Pablo Cortez, founder of La Gente Boxing Club and the mastermind behind the original Battle of the Badges, will be coordinating the fourth annual When Forces Collide boxing exhibition Saturday, at the Imperial Valley Expo’s Casa de Mañana Building.
The event will feature a total of 14 bouts — three headlining youth boxers, and the remainder, adults — and of those, four have been labeled as championship bouts.
Cortez says they should offer some “interesting matchups.”
Contestants are expected to range anywhere from law enforcement officials, MMA fighters, and anyone, frankly, “who dares to step into the ring for a good cause.”
“It should be action-packed,” the Brawley-based trainer said. “We’ve got a full card of fighters representing clubs throughout the Valley, as well as (MMA clubs). We wanted to add more to the mix, put some more excitement into it.”
The main event will feature light-heavyweight Aron Barrios, an employee at Calipatria State Prison and fighter for R&R Boxing of Calexico, versus Dano Moore, an officer with the Yuma Police Department and representative of Torture Athletics.
Price of admission is $15. All proceeds will go toward La Gente Boxing Club and affiliated youth programs.
