Why doesn’t Bucklin Park have a billboard to show the different routes and distances around the park? — Resident, El Centro
“We’ve never really talked about it. Nobody has really ever brought it up before,” said Kristie Riester, director of Parks and Recreation for the city.
“I think a lot of people just know it. But I’d be happy to put up a sign and do something,” she said.
We agree that most people do know that two times around Bucklin Park is one mile, and if they do not, it’s fairly easy to find out in the Internet age.
There are countless websites where a person can map their run or job, or simply find a location on a map and measure it for that purpose.
Still, we also agree it would be nice to see an official measurement on a sign. After all, for many El Centro residents, Bucklin Park is their exercise hub. And frankly, not everyone is Internet savvy.
So, that was simple. Riester thinks it will be relatively inexpensive to put the sign up. She said it might not be super fancy, but it will do.
“I’m happy to do something like that. (We’ll put it) probably at the start of the path; maybe one over by the playground area and one by the parking lots,” she said.
Meanwhile, Riester says she has a wish list for Bucklin for the coming year but didn’t want to reveal it. Her department is presently constructing its preliminary budget and wants and needs, which will then go to the Finance Department by Friday. At some point it will get to the City Council for adoption. Then, we’ll find out those plans.
