CALEXICO — The Calexico Business Improvement District approved funding for a Music in the Streets project intended to boost business for Mother’s Day sales.

A budget of $2,500 was approved to provide music between 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. April 28 and May 5, though some details may change as plans become more concrete.

The agenda item was proposed by BID member Cristina Rocha, and details were heavily discussed during a special meeting Wednesday.

While the music project didn’t happen last year, it is the second time for the BID to do a project involving musical entertainment for shoppers.

The BID also discussed encouraging businesses to distribute coupons or other promotional business materials along with the music to increase sales before the U.S. and Mexican celebrations of Mother’s Day.
