CALEXICO — City residents are invited to share ideas on how to improve the city during a town hall meeting tonight.
City Council decided in February to have the town hall meeting at the request of Councilman Bill Hodge, who said he believes it’s a unique opportunity for citizens to voice their concerns to City Council members and staff in a less formal setting.
This is the first town hall meeting for Calexico in years.
“I really want to know what the people are really concerned about. I have a good idea, but I want to hear it from them,” Hodge said. “I really feel that our city government doesn’t effectively, for whatever reasons, does not address the immediate concerns of our population of citizens.”
While today’s town hall meeting is at City Hall, Hodge said future town hall meetings will be held at different areas of town on a quarterly basis.
“The purpose of this first meeting is to compile a priority list based on what they’re going to tell us and then we can fashion future town hall meetings,” Hodge said.
It’s not anticipated to last longer than an hour and a half, and members of the public are invited to speak on any topic of concern.
