CALEXICO — Calexico Unified received some much-needed good news this week as it was announced that waivers have been approved for penalties stemming from the 2010 earthquake school closures.
The waivers from the state total to about $3.7 million, broken down to $1.66 million from the California Department of Education, $1.04 million from the School Boards of Education and just under $1 million from the Education Audit Appeals Panel, Calexico Unified consultant Angelica Tellechea said.
The two larger waivers have been approved and it appears that the third is on schedule for approval, Calexico Unified Superintendent Richard Fragale said.
