The rehabilitation of two Calexico water tanks damaged by the 2010 Easter earthquake was awarded Tuesday to Crosno Construction Inc. by the Imperial County Board of Supervisors.
While the damage compromised the structure of the tanks’ roofs, the reservoirs in the Gateway Water Treatment Plant didn’t collapse and are operating, according to a report to the board.
Crosno was the lowest of four bidders at roughly $492,000, said county deputy director of public works John Gay. Construction work is scheduled to begin sometime this month, Gay said, and we expect the work to be complete by the summer.
Supervisor John Renison said he always has concerns with change orders and asked Gay to address the issue.
A resident engineer will supervise the construction, Gay responded, and Public Works allows for a 10 percent change order.
“But that is something that is always monitored very closely,” he said.
