BRAWLEY — Police are investigating the gang-related stabbing attack of a man over the weekend as an attempted homicide case, an official said Monday.

A weapon has not been recovered but Brawley police Cmdr. Brett Houser said detectives are looking for the suspect, or suspects, behind the assault early Saturday that left one 30-year-old man with multiple stab wounds to his back, abdomen and neck.

The unidentified victim remains in serious but stable condition at an area hospital, Houser said.

Police received an anonymous call at 5:53 a.m. about an injured man found in the street in the 600 block of North Imperial Avenue, Houser said.

“He looks like he’s going to make it,” Houser said of the victim.

Houser did not confirm whether the stabbing victim had any gang ties. A motive behind the early-morning stabbing attack was not immediately known as the investigation is ongoing, the commander said.
