IMPERIAL - No one was hurt Sunday night during a blaze that charred three units of a storage facility on Aten Road, Imperial County Fire Assistant Chief Rob Scott.
Two fire engines and another from the El Centro Fire Department were called out to help douse the flames of the 10:37 p.m. fire that occurred in the 300 block of Aten Road near Clark Road, Scott said.
Fire crews weren’t finished until 2:05 a.m., Scott said. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
Evacuation at trailer park reported
WINTERHAVEN - The evacuation of a trailer park near Arnold and Coley roads was called for Monday during brush fire, according to scanner traffic.
No information about the number of residents who were evacuated, or how the blaze was ignited during the 5:37 p.m. scanner report, was immediately available.
Cocaine uncovered at checkpoint
SALTON SEA - A shipment carrying about $1.4 million worth of cocaine was uncovered over the weekend at the Highway 86 checkpoint.
A 36-year-old Mexican national who had valid immigration documents was arrested Saturday when U.S. Border Patrol agents found 20 packages that carried about 45.7 pounds of cocaine. The packages were found hidden between the condenser and radiator of a white Dodge pickup truck, officials said.
The driver was turned over, along with the cocaine and the vehicle, to the Drug Enforcement Administration.
