SALTON CITY - A U.S. citizen could face attempted drug smuggling charges following his arrest this week on allegations that he tried bringing about 11 pounds of methamphetamine through the Highway 111 checkpoint.
A check at the secondary inspection area revealed that six packages of the illegal drug that was valued at more than $366,000 was found Wednesday in a compartment of a Nissan Sentra, a statement reported.
U.S. Border Patrol agents were using a drug-sniffing dog that alerted them to the vehicle. The driver, 21, was arrested but the Border Patrol’s statement did not specify where he was from.
