BRAWLEY — The board of the Brawley Elementary School District is expected to vote tonight on a $135,000 contract that would reinstate former Superintendent Ron Garcia for more than a year.
The meeting, which starts at 5:30 p.m. at the district’s D Street office, would cover Garcia’s proposed term of employment starting Wednesday and slated to end June 20, 2013, according to a copy of the employment agreement.
Garcia’s salary for this month would be prorated. Under the terms of the contract Garcia and the district would make contributions for the superintendent’s salary earned from June 14, 2011, through Feb. 14, 2012, and thereafter.
Garcia was fired in June 2011, a move that spawned protests and at least one lawsuit filed on Garcia’s behalf by a local advocacy group.
In late December it was announced that the Brawley school board was in discussions with attorneys to negotiate Garcia’s return to the district.
