In an effort to promote health awareness among the families in the community, Southwest High School will host a health fair Thursday.
The event is open to the public and includes a guest speaker and prizes.
The fair will also feature a number of booths from health organizations in the area, said Jackie Valadez, the school’s Health Occupations Students of America club adviser.
“The main focus of the event is to actually show families how to be healthy,” Valadez said. “The event will be very interactive and people will be able to learn as they visit the different booths.”
The school’s Future Farmers of America organization will also be on hand to provide helpful tips for people interested in starting a garden at their homes.
“Ultimately, we want the community to adopt a healthier lifestyle and bring awareness to health issues like obesity,” Valadez said.
