The Bureau of Land Management got a boost this week with the donation of two new vehicles from the Imperial Valley Cycle Center and Polaris Industries for rescue and safety use.

“I am excited to be working with both Imperial Valley Cycle Center and Polaris Industries to bring an added element of safety to the areas we patrol,” BLM Imperial Sand Dunes Recreation Area Manager Neal Hamada wrote in a release. “The RZR’s will prove to be a great asset to us with their superior off road capabilities and wide range of uses.”

The agency received an Xtreme Performance RZR XP 900 and a RZR 4 800 worth an combined estimated total of $35,000.

“We try to support those we can. The government has a limited budget these days so this is a token of support for local law enforcement,” Imperial Valley Cycle Center President Marty Coyne said.

When Polaris approached the Imperial Valley Cycle Center for help facilitating the donation, “we jumped right on board,” Coyne said. “This partnership will add another level of safety and security to our customer base and riders from all over the country who love to come recreate in our sand dunes.”

Between 1.2 million and 1.4 million visitors come to the dunes each year, and the BLM El Centro office responds to 400 to 500 medical calls a year in addition to all the visitor contacts, Hamada said.

The El Centro office covers 1.3 million acres from Riverside to Mexico and east San Diego area all the way to the Colorado River.

“We are always looking for ways to give back to the community and the organizations that serve and protect our Imperial Sand Dunes Recreation areas.
