IMPERIAL — As part of “National Coming Out Day,” the Imperial Valley College LGBTQ Club will hold its first flag-raising ceremony Thursday.
The celebration begins at noon with a short presentation on the history of the day and the rainbow flag. Soon after a rainbow flag will be raised below the U.S. and state flags that sit upon the IVC flagpole, near the entrance to the college, according to a press release from the club.
“This is an opportunity to recognize the diversity of the entire student population of IVC, a population that includes LGBTQ students and their straight supporters,” said Daniel Bermudez, club treasure and event planner, within the release.
Those attending the flag-raising are encouraged to use parking lot A, however parking permits will still be required during the festivities, explained Lisa Solomon, club adviser.
The event is scheduled to last 45 minutes.
