Halloween can be a fun-filled time for some but it can get downright scary when there aren’t enough props or costumes available before the big occasion.
That might have been the reason Krystella Biagi, of Imperial, came looking for the item of her choice Friday during a sale at the Halloween City location in El Centro.
Other shoppers came looking as well while Biagi went shopping along with her 7-year-old daughter Kenna.
“We’re just adding Halloween things to the house,” Biagi said.
Asked what she got Biagi answered: “Tombstones … and a wrapped mummy for the trick-or-treaters.”
Halloween plans varied among some people Friday as they engaged in some last-minute shopping before the festivities get under way this weekend and Monday.
Friday’s big rush of shoppers was nothing new for Halloween City store manager Felicity Benton, who compared the shopping spree to another big-time retail event.
“It’s like Black Friday,” Benton said. “It happens every year.”
Jorge Ojeda is store manager of the Party City location that was at first stocked with costumes and other Halloween-related accessories before customers soon took them off the shelves.
“In the last 10 days is when the customers really rush to get their Halloween accessories,” Ojeda said.
“It has to be costumes,” Ojeda said when asked about the hottest-selling item.
Costumes featured in popular movies are typically what patrons come looking for, Ojeda said.
“People tend to look for those quite a lot,” he said.
