While some were dancing the night away or sound asleep as 2012 arrived, Jessica and Harvey Torres of Imperial were welcoming their first child into the world.
Jazmyn Aleah Torres was born at 12:03 a.m. New Year’s Day at El Centro Regional Medical Center. She weighed 7 pounds, 15 ounces.
While the couple said they were nervous going into the hospital Saturday, they felt “at ease” Monday before going home with their new addition to the family.
El Centro Regional Medical Center provided the couple with a crib full of baby supplies to help the transition into parenthood.
Not far behind Torres was the Banales family of Calexico. Ernesto Banales was born at 2:09 a.m. at Pioneers Memorial Hospital, also weighing 7 pounds, 15 ounces.
Parents Jose Ernesto and Viridiana Banales beamed while looking at their firstborn Monday before also going home. They said all of the nurses were referring to their child as “New Year’s baby.”
Pioneers Memorial Hospital provided the couple with a crib full of baby supplies and a bouquet of flowers.
El Centro Regional Medical Center delivers about 114 babies a month while Pioneers delivers about 160 babies a month on average.
