Longtime attorney Brooks Anderholt announced Wednesday he has entered the race for a judgeship in Imperial County Superior Court.

Anderholt, a 57-year-old Holtville native, said he has pulled papers for his first stab at running for the judgeship in the June 5 election. Anderholt plans to have a kick-off event at Holt Park on Jan. 14.

Last week, prominent defense attorney Christopher Plourd was appointed by Gov. Jerry Brown to a judgeship in the Superior Court.

There is one vacancy left among the judicial officers in the court. Anderholt said the judgeship is office No. 4 in the court.

A former seven-year Imperial County deputy sheriff and high school history teacher in Calexico, Anderholt was raised in Holtville and has practiced law since July 1987, he said.

While he has been in private practice for many years, Anderholt has also been a defense attorney. Anderholt said his experience as an attorney would make him an ideal candidate for the judgeship.

“I’ve got the background and experience to be a judge,” Anderholt said. “I think I’m that person.”
