IMPERIAL — A Brawley man suspected of impaired driving faces felony charges of driving under the influence and hit and run after he allegedly struck a vehicle from where a 12-year-old boy was ejected, a California Highway Patrol officer said Monday.
Isaac Solorio Beaver, 28, was arrested Saturday following the 7 a.m. crash at Highway 111 and Worthington Road that left the boy, an Imperial resident, with unspecified major injuries that required a flight out to Loma Linda University Children’s Hospital, said Highway Patrol Officer Michael Davidson in a press statement.
The boy’s condition was not known at press time. The boy was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash, Davidson said.
Two other Imperial boys, 10 and 16, traveled with the boy in a 2007 Toyota Rav4 driven by Juan Bernal and was heading west on Worthington Road, Davidson said. Beaver, who was behind the wheel of a 1996 Volvo sedan, was traveling north on Highway 111 when he allegedly failed to stop at the red light and plowed into Bernal’s Toyota Rav4 that went through the intersection. Bernal had the green light, Davidson said.
The impact caused the unsecured boy, who sat in the rear, to be ejected and land in the center dirt median, Davidson said. Bernal and the two other passengers, all from Imperial, received minor to moderate injuries for which they were taken to El Centro Regional Medical Center.
Beaver, Davidson said, ran from the scene but was caught by Highway Patrol officers. Beaver suffered moderate injuries during the collision and was taken to Pioneers Memorial Hospital, but is in custody, Davidson said.
