Calexico Wreck

An undercover Border Patrol Agent was struck by a man around 12:40 a.m. Sunday near the corner of Emerson Avenue and Lincoln Street in Calexico. The driver then crashed his car into a residential home's fence and fled before being caught and detained a couple of blocks over. CALEXICO — A man apparently hit an undercover U.S. Border Patrol agent, then crashed his car into a nearby residential home’s fence and fled on foot before being caught in Calexico around 12:30 a.m. Sunday.

The wreck occurred near the corner of Emerson Avenue and Lincoln Street.

U.S. Border Patrol, Calexico Police and Calexico Fire officials arrived on scene and with the help of a helicopter spotlight, the suspect was soon detained nearby on Grant Street.

The agent was disoriented but uninjured, while the driver who fled had minor cuts on his arms and some pain on his side. No more information was available on scene.


Group injured on Interstate 8 grade

IMPERIAL COUNTY — Two or three people were reportedly injured on Interstate 8 on Sunday just east of Mountain Springs Road after their vehicle hit the mountainside.

Ambulances and Sheriff’s officials were called out about 1:30 p.m. Sunday after a group was reportedly trapped inside their vehicle, one barely breathing, according to the California Highway Patrol traffic incident Web site. Cones were set up close to 2 p.m. to cut off traffic in the right lane, and REACH Air Helicopter was called in.
