HOLTVILLE — A school was closed and a few homes were without water after a water line broke on the east side of town.

Public works crews contained the water line break on East Seventh Street between Maple and Walnut avenues where a hole had been dug out of the sidewalk area to reach the pipeline, said Alex Chavez, underground utilities supervisor for the city. The water line broke around 11 a.m. and led to Finley Elementary School being closed.

Holtville City Manager Alexander Meyerhoff suggests the incident is part of the operations of any system, resulting in the line breaking periodically.
