Two 16-year-olds were arrested early Tuesday on suspicion of stealing a beach cruiser bicycle from the El Centro home of an off-duty Imperial County sheriff’s deputy, according to a log entry at the El Centro Police Department.
The wife of the sheriff’s deputy, whose name did not appear in the entry, made a 12:31 a.m. 911 call reporting the incident. The woman told police her husband ran outside with his service gun to check around their Lenrey Avenue home after hearing their dogs barking.
The beach cruiser, which was red and had custom handlebars, was apparently taken from the garage, the log entry read.
El Centro police located the bicycle at the rear of a home in the 2400 block of Orange Avenue. The off-duty deputy was informed about the discovery and told to “stand by” to recover it.
The juveniles were arrested on suspicion of conspiracy and receiving stolen property, the log entry reported. The entry didn’t explain what the juveniles’ gender was or their cities of residence.
