Woman arrested for leaving child on the side of the road

WINTERHAVEN - A 22-year-old woman identified as Marlene Dawn Miller was arrested by the Quechan Police Department at 5:36 a.m. Tuesday on suspicion of willful cruelty to a child.

Police received an earlier call at 2:04 a.m. from a woman stating she had picked up a 9-month-old child on the side of the road.

An Imperial County Sheriff’s Office log entry shows that the incident occurred in the 1800 block of Firestone Avenue.

The child was picked up by Quechan police at the location, where the mother of the child was drunk and bleeding, the logs say.  The bleeding might have been caused by a fall or by someone hitting her on the left side of her face, according to the logs.

The child was left with its grandfather and the mother was given medical aid.

She was being held on a $100,000 bail.
