JACUMBA — U.S. Border Patrol agents assigned to the El Centro station arrested a convicted sex offender Wednesday in the mountains near Jacumba.
The 25-year-old man was apprehended by Border Patrol agents after he attempted to enter the U.S. illegally from Mexico around 11:30 p.m.
He was transported to the El Centro Border Patrol Station where agents identified him as Jose Miguel Luna-Villegas, a citizen of Mexico.
Criminal record checks revealed that Villegas has a conviction in Norwalk for engaging in sexual intercourse with a minor under the age of 16.
Villegas is currently being held by the U.S. Border Patrol pending federal prosecution.
