SALTON CITY - A woman died after being struck by a vehicle here Tuesday evening, and the driver of the vehicle later was arrested on suspicion of hit-and-run.
The incident occurred on Salton Sea Way, east of Wilson Avenue here, according to a press release from the California Highway Patrol.
The driver of the vehicle that reportedly hit the unnamed woman, Brawley resident Jeremy Justin German, 18, was westbound at a speed of 35 mph around 9:20 p.m., the Highway Patrol press release states. German failed to see the female pedestrian walking in the westbound lane of Salton Sea Way, allegedly hit her and continued traveling west, the press release states.
The woman was later pronounced dead at the scene due to the severity of the impact, according to the release.
German returned to the scene of the collision later, where he was arrested for hit and run and was transported to the Imperial County jail.
The collision is under investigation by the Highway Patrol, and further information regarding the victim has yet to be released pending the notification of family members.
