Nonprofit organizations helping Imperial Valley youths can get a boost through $20,000 in grants offered through the Imperial Valley Community Foundation this year.
“We’re hoping to improve the overall quality of life in the Imperial Valley, and if that can be done by inspiring the next generation, by holding its hand, then that’s where we’d like to focus,” foundation President and Chief Executive Officer Bobby Brock said.
The Imperial Valley Community Foundation’s Youth Grants Program offers grants to established nonprofit organizations that provide program services to youths ages 14 to 22.
Those interested in the grants can find out more at the 2012 Youth Grants Program Workshop for Applicants today and April 18.
The nonprofits must offer one or more of specified youth services such as career awareness, sports and mentoring.
Brock underscored that the foundation wants to facilitate community nonprofit activity that specifically empowers younger generations through positive adult interaction and skill development.
The grants are funded through the James Irvine Foundation and partnered contributions of the Imperial Valley Community Foundation. No single award will exceed $5,000.
Nonprofits awarded last year include Clinicas de Salud del Pueblo, El Centro Police Activities League and Girl Scouts, San Diego-Imperial Council.
About $50,000 has been invested into the community’s agencies serving youths since the grants program began in 2009. The Imperial Valley Community Foundation was formed in 1987.
The application deadline is 5 p.m. May 7. Visit www.ivcommunityfoundation.org for information. Awards will be announced by June 1.
Workshop attendees are encouraged to make reservations. Call Brock at 760-336-0055 or e-mail him at bobby@ivcommunityfoundation.org for more information or to RSVP.
