Barzanji did not belong to the Phi Kappa Theta fraternity, but he was recently named president of another one - Sigma Alpha Epsilon.  He also worked at P.F. Changs in Mission Valley.

San Diego police spokesman Jim Johnson said his department's homicide division had not been called in on the case, which would have occurred if the fatality had appeared suspicious.

In a statement, SDSU President Elliot Hirshman said he and his staff were "deeply saddened by the news of the death of one of our students this morning."

"SDSU police are investigating the circumstances," he said.

The university offered campus counseling and psychological services to any students having difficulty dealing with the fatality.

"He seemed like a pleasant boy, very pleasant," said neighbor Shavonne Darrington.
