SAN DIEGO -- Authorities announced a $2,000 reward Monday for information leading to the arrest and conviction of a construction worker suspected of opening fire on his pregnant teenage girlfriend at her Escondido apartment, killing her and her unborn child.

Ruben Anthony Cepeda, 21, allegedly shot 18-year-old Viridiana Rodriguez- Nunez in the abdomen at her rented residence in the 700 block of North Fig Street about 7:30 p.m. on April 7. Medics took her to Palomar Medical Center, where she and the 4-month-old fetus she was carrying were pronounced dead a short time later.

Cepeda, who has been at large since the shooting, is a 5-foot-8-inch, roughly 150-pound Latino with black hair and brown eyes.

A recent donation has doubled the initial reward of $1,000 posted by San Diego County Crime Stoppers in the case. Anyone with information about the suspect's whereabouts was asked to call the nonprofit agency at (888) 580-8477. Tipsters may remain anonymous.
