Fat Albert integral part of Blue Angels show

Posted: Saturday, March 15, 2014 12:50 am

While most people will be looking forward to the fast-flying tricks and maneuvers of the Blue Angel’s F/A-18 Hornet jets during today’s air show, it’s one of the lesser-known aerial tricksters that makes it possible for the team to get around the country.

Serving primarily as the team’s work horse, the large, blue and yellow Lockheed C-130 Hercules, affectionately known as Fat Albert, has been part of the Blue Angels team since 1970, said Staff Sgt. Christian Villalobos, who served as navigator aboard a special Fat Albert flight for media and educators Friday afternoon.
