BRAWLEY --- Police assure there is nothing to indicate that Wednesday's attempted kidnapping of a 9-year-old girl was related to a similar incident that occurred last week.

Police arrested a suspect, identified as 46-year-old Emilio Mario Rivas, on suspicion of trying to grab the girl who was walking home from school in the 1000 block of I Street, a press statement reported.

A man was arrested Feb. 10 on suspicion of trying to kidnap, and sexually assault, a 13-year-old boy.

The girl and the friend she was walking with ran away from the suspect who was standing by a vehicle and went home. A father to one of the girls returned to the area where the3:20 p.m. incident occurred and managed to find the suspect, police reported. A fight broke out between the two men but the suspect fled before police arrived.

Officers learned that Rivas allegedly fled the area in a taxi cab and managed to locate him at Brawley Avenue and I Street by contacting all local cab companies, police reported. Rivas was positively identified and later booked into the county jail.
