The construction of Campo Verde Solar project, a 139 megawatt solar plant near El Centro, has begun, the developer announced today.
Campo Verde Solar is expected to be completed this year and create approximately 250 construction jobs, according to First Solar, the project’s developer.
The project will generate enough electricity to power about 50,000 homes.
A recent attempt to stop the project with a court injunction was unsuccessful, but the project still faces two lawsuits, said Katherine Turner, Imperial County senior deputy county counsel.
