A fire El Centro Fire authorities believe is suspicious in origin is under investigation after it gutted an abandoned single-family house, a fire captain said today.
The fire that was reported at 3;20 p.m. Tuesday swept through the home in the 700 block of Brighton Avenue that was open and had nothing to prevent anyone from coming in, said El Centro Fire Capt. Mike Apalategui.
No one was hurt during the blaze that appears to be deliberately set and was "knocked down," or extinguished, within five or 10 minutes, Apalategui said.
