An investigation is under way about an alleged incident involving a man suspected of grabbing a moderately autistic 12-year-old boy in the restroom of the Sizzler's restaurant in El Centro, an official said today.
The suspect, described as a white male adult with curly hair, has not been charged in connection with the alleged incident that was reported April 15, but El Centro Police Cmdr. Jeff Mason said police are trying to determine what exactly happened.
In addition, no arrests have been made in relation to the assault the alleged suspect suffered at the hands of one of the boy's relatives later that same day, Mason said. That separate incident is also under investigation.
A log entry of the 3:16 p.m. incident at the El Centro Police Department read that the man was naked and tried to grab the boy in one of the stalls of the bathroom of the Imperial Avenue restaurant.
The alleged suspect suffered multiple facial fractures and was taken to El Centro Regional Medical Center. Investigators are trying to contact the suspect as he is recovering from his injuries, Mason said.
Mason said it is believed that some type of touching or grabbing may have been involved.
