BRAWLEY --- Board members of the Brawley Elementary School District voted unanimously today to rehire Ron Garcia as district superintendent.
Trustees also accepted the resignation of interim Superintendent Roberto Moreno, who helmed the district for 7 1/2 months following the board's controversial move last year to fire Garcia, who many in the community felt he was wrongfully terminated. Two board members, Omer Stiff and Kathy Pryor --- who both voted to oust Garcia --- had been voted out of office druing November's election.
Garcia, who said he'll assume his duties "first thing in the morning," will receive an annual salary of $135,000 from Wednesday through June 30, 2013 under the terms of the contract district trustees voted to grant him.
