A $700 million solar facility is expected to be completed in the Mt. Signal area in 2014. 

The groundbreaking ceremony was held Wednesday. Developed by Centinela Solar Energy on over 1,600 acres, the project is expected have the capacity to generate 170 megawatts, and will supply San Diego Gas and Electric with enough electricity to power 1 million average San Diego households for one year.
