A number of suspects were arrested in connection with the weekend shooting of an El Centro resident who drove himself to the east Port of Entry, an official said today.

Imperial County Sheriff's Senior Deputy Investigator Jorge Cabanillas, who was speaking on behalf of sheriff's Lt. George Moreno, said authorities in Mexicali had taken three or four suspects into custody for the alleged botched robbery and attempted kidnapping of the 57-year-old victim.

The identity of the man was unknown but he was flown out Saturday to seek treatment for at least three gunshot wounds to his leg and left arm. Cabanillas said authorities in Mexicali had recovered the guns used in the incident.
