SALTON CITY --- U.S. Border Patrol agents at the Highway 86 checkpoint arrested this week two suspected smugglers who were allegedly caught with more than $1 million of narcotics, a press statement read.
The first occurred Tuesday when a 49-year-old passenger from the U.S. on a commercial bus was found to have two packages with more than five pounds of black tar heroin hidden under his pants.
The second arrest occurred Wednesday when Border Patrol agents found 24 pounds of cocaine packaged in a custom-made compartment inside a vehicle driven by a 24-year-old U.S. citizen, the statement read. All suspects and narcotics were turned over to the Drug Enforcement Administration.
