A not guilty plea was entered today for John Swaim, a California Highway Patrol lieutenant, on charges that he sexually victimized two girls in two separate occasions more than a decade ago.

Despite the strong opposition by Swaim's attorney Bob Espinosa, Imperial County Superior Court Judge Juan Ulloa ordered the defendant to be remanded to jail with bail set at $100,000.

A preliminary hearing date was set Dec. 6. Charges had been filed today in superior court as Swaim was expected to surrender himself in jail court. The charges Swaim pleaded not guilty to include committing a lewd act upon a child.
